Taken from their first EP produced by Hudson Mohawke, Some Reptiles Grew Wings.
Wrote about them before here. If you’re at all interested in what they sound like before clicking the ‘play’ button above then I’m forcing you to click. Otherwise, ENJOY!
Martin O’Donnell - Unforgotten (Around whenever Halo 2 came out, and no, this isn’t some Usher song)
Taken from the Halo 2 soundtrack. Yay, the worst game of the, now, 4.
I nearly forgot to post a track today! Unbelievable! In recognition of this fact/a lack of effort I typed “forgot” into my itunes search bar and looked for the thing that wasn’t punk or Klaxons or Dr. Dre, that was this track. Fitting considering no one’s going to read this because they’re all playing Halo: Reach right this very minute.
[it wasnt in mp3 so enjoy this extremely sensual video with Unforgotten playing behind it]
Gold Panda is one dude. In some ways you could group this music with “chillwave” and that whole vibe. But it’s so much more than that, much more rhythmic and house-y, than your average chillwave artist. It’s got a cool ambient, almost Richard D. James kinda feel as well. I love that every song is its own universe as well. Fucking great album. I couldn’t really choose a single song. But I did. It’s the first track on the album.
Instead of posting your typical single track, I’m embedding the live recording of Major Lazer at London’s Notting Hill Carnival, its a classically multicultural event and Major Lazer’s performance definitely plays to that, with a largely Dancehall theme.
I listened to this a couple times yesterday afternoon, its great fun!
Taken from Dizzee’s amazing and classic first album “Boy in Da Corner”.
I’m at the stage where I could just keeping putting variations of punk up on here and be perfectly content with myself to a degree, but I OH NO, I couldn’t do that you! (im assuming that you is more than Jared on his laptop in the cool lesbian house).
What we have here is GRIME. Grime, simply put is British urban music that started around the early 2000s I believe, as an offshoots of UK Garage club music (I’ll post that later, its cool). British rap you’d say, but its a lot more than that. Its faster for one, but generally its just…grimey-er. Ha. This documentary from MTV on Grime is great for an intro course if you’re more interested. This track isn’t the best example of the basic tenants of the Grime sound, but it is certainly one of the most popular and one of the first breakout hits into the mainstream.
